The App Store has always been in competition with the Play Store ever since the early 2000’s. This past quarter, however, the gap dividing the two widened even more. Apps hosted by Apple generated a whopping 93% more revenue than Google from July-September 2018. The top revenue generating apps include retail, subscriptions, and games.
Although Apple generated more revenue, Google generated more app downloads. This could be because of a number of reasons, including the cost of a Google phone being priced lower than an iPhone. This is a great explanation as to why Apple generated more revenue– their consumers are willing to spend more.
